Pharrell Williams has been extremely busy in the last few years. His hit song “Happy” remained #1 on the Billboard charts for more than 10 weeks while his much anticipated full album “GIRL” was released. This was all after the huge success of the catchy and controversial single he produced with Robin Thick, “Blurred Lines,” which stayed in the #1 spot longer than any other song released in 2013. Shall I go on? Later that year he married the beautiful and extremely fashionable Helen Lasichanh and then proceeded to start a collaborative fashion endeavor of his own – Gstar Raw for the Oceans.
Raw for the Oceans is a sustainable clothing project that takes some of the eight-million-tons of plastic dumped in the ocean every year and turns it into edgy and smart sustainable fashion for both men and women. Teaming up with big denim producer Gstar Raw and eco fabric company Bionic Yarn, Williams creates a recycled collection that includes jeans, tees, hats, sweats, and jackets. This “green” collection is edgy, comfy and 100% cool.
In 2015, with Raw for the Oceans on his resume, Williams moved forward with the fight towards a more sustainable lifestyle and started the “Are You With Us” campaign with Woolworths. The South African based company knows that Pharrell, with his environmentally friendly values, can help to make sustainability cool for the next generation and help to protect us and the planet. This is why we are honoring Pharrell Williams on Worlds Ocean Day – he is using his celebrity status for good and continues to care about making sustainability cool.
